I’m Abdiel. I’m Colombian-Venezuelan, and I lived in El Poblado, Medellín, before writing any of this.
That’s where my first-hand knowledge comes from directly: the city itself, how people actually get around, what things cost day to day. As this guide grows to cover more of Antioquia, I research each destination carefully, using local sources, recent traveler reports, and official information, and I’m upfront about which guides are based on a trip I’ve taken myself and which are built from careful research.
Most English-language guides to this part of Colombia are written from a distance: pulled from other blogs, generated to rank rather than to help, or based on a single short trip. My goal here is to do better than that, whether the guide comes from personal experience or from research, by focusing on the details that actually help you plan: how to get somewhere, what it really costs, and how long it really takes once you account for traffic.
I also trained and worked as a chef before moving into this. That background shows up here mostly in how I think about food: I pay attention to what a place actually serves, not just what looks good on a menu photo.
How this guide is built
New guides go up when they are finished, not on a schedule. When something depends on the season, the day of the week, or your level of Spanish, I say so instead of giving a flattened, one-size-fits-all answer.
